CID not to probe lawyers in defection case
Gulf-News, 04 November 2001. A move by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to question lawywers appearing for the wife of a former government minister who defected to the opposition has been dropped after lawyers challenged the move. The CID yesterday dropped their demand to summon a leading lawyer appearing for the family of ex-minister SB Dissanayake after the lawyer refused to submit to what he called an illegal summons notice issued by the police. Senior partner of Samararatna Associates, Attorneys-at-Law, Asoka Samararatna was on Friday served with a "notice" by the CID to call at the CID's Fraud Detection Unit at the police headquarters to provide information on the whereabouts of the wife of former samurdhi and sports minister SB Dissanayake, now a leading campaigner for the opposition.
