Sri Lankan police crack down on political bigwigs
Gulf-News, 14 December 2001. Police in Sri Lanka have begun cracking down on former government members whom they have been unable to take action during the past few years due to political pressure. The crackdown began as the courts ordered the arrest of the Deputy Defence Minister General Anuruddha Ratwatte's son, Lohan Ratwatte, for his alleged links with the murder of 10 supporters of a Muslim party on the day of the elections in central Sri Lanka. At least two people who were injured in the attack have claimed that Lohan Ratwatte was personally involved in the incident on the election day of December 5. More...
