Plot to assassinate Wickremesinghe foiled

Sri Lankan forces are believed to have foiled a plan to assassinate newly-elected Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and senior military officials after they seized a huge cache of highly-sophisticated weapons and ammunitions in the Millennium City area at Athurugiriya, near the Lankan Parliament here, last night. According to reliable sources, the arms cache was seized from an army captain’s residence. They said the weapons seized included thermo-baric rocket launchers and powerful claymore mines. More...
