Sri Lanka, LTTE to sign pact drafted by Norway: Report
HT/IANS, 07 January 2002. Sri Lanka and Tamil Tiger guerrillas are expected to sign in the next few weeks an agreement drafted by Norway that will ensure a permanent truce to end years of ethnic bloodshed. "It is expected that the memorandum of understanding would be signed before Independence Day on February 4 and direct talks will begin before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on April 14," the Sunday Leader newspaper said. It is expected to spell out the modalities of the ceasefire and will lay down the framework for the first round of peace talks, it said. More...
