Deputy minister tries to influence army transfer
Ranmali Wijesuriya in Colombo, SLT 10.10 a.m Wednesday 9 January. A deputy minister of the United National Front government has tried to influence the army hierachy to stop a transfer of an army officer to Jaffna sources told The Lanka Academic. Deputy minister, a son of a late senior politician has called the army hierachy and told them to stop the transfer as a favour to him. The Lanka Academic learns that the army had told the deputy minister that it is not possible. Our sources reveal that defence minister Marapana is to take up the matter at the next cabinet meeting as he does not want any politician to interfere in to matters concerning the defence establishment.
