Tiger 'feeler' stirs controversy
Gulf-News, 10 January 2002. A 'feeler' by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebel group to hold proposed peace talks with the Sri Lankan government in neighbouring India has created a major controversy, according to reports reaching here. The LTTE is said to have asked third-party facilitators Norway to explore the availability of Indian soil as the venue for the talks between the rebel group and the Colombo government. More...

Indian state wary of hosting Sri Lankan rebels

MADRAS, India, Jan. 9 — A top official of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu said on Wednesday the provincial government had no desire to host peace talks to settle Sri Lanka's bloody separatist rebellion. ''In light of our past experience with the (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) we wouldn't like to play host to them in Madras to find them settling down or using the state as a sanctuary subsequently,'' the official, who declined to be identified, said...
