Lanka peace thrust may hook global aid, says report
The Indian Express, january 20. Sri Lanka’s latest peace efforts may help it get a better deal from international donors, as it moves towards an agreed ceasefire with the LTTE ahead of a meeting of its aid club due in Paris shortly. Industrial Policy and Enterprise Development Minister G. Lpeiris ‘‘is upbeat about economic prospects in the light of the improved stability and momentum towards peace talks’’, the state-run Sunday Observer said today. The peace moves got another thrust on Sunday when the LTTE announced in a statement they were extending by another month a unilateral one-month truce they declared on Christmas eve which was reciprocated by government troops.
