Jaffna- Kandy Highway to be Opened
Saroj Pathirana in London, Friday 01/02/02 1600 GMT. Kandy- Jaffna main highway to be opened on the 15th of February. A9, which was closed for decades blocking all forms of transportation, will initially be opened up to Killinochchi, Sandeshaya Colombo reporter Elmo Fernando reported quoting military officials and Government Agent of Vavuniya.

This is a significant development in the current peace process between the government and the Tamil rebels. The road had been neglected for years and turned into a mud track. This will radically change the supply route to the North.
