Key highway reopens after nine years
Gulf-News, February 16. The key highway linking the northern Jaffna peninsula and the rest of the country was re-opened after a lapse of nine years following consensus reached between the Sri Lankan government and the Tamil rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).Three government ministers along with senior army officials attended the reopening ceremony bringing in the fist group of civilians from the uncleared areas into the cleared areas while the group travelling from the military cleared areas into the rebel controlled areas had to wait for three more hours before they started off.
