Lankan govt confident over peace efforts
South Nexus, COLOMBO, Mar 04. The Sri Lankan Government is confident that President Chandrika Kumaratunga will not torpedo its peace initiatives despite her concerns and reservations about the cease-fire agreement with the LTTE, Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando has said. "Of course, she has expressed concern. She has issued a statement attacking the government, but at the same time, President Kumaratunga has agreed that the two parties should work together to resolve the northeast crisis," Fernando told media persons in Brisbane. He said he had assured leaders attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Brisbane that the President and Prime Minister would work together in the peace process and that it would succeed despite problems and obstacles.
