Lanka PM seeks backing for truce pact
Gulf-News, 05 March 2002. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday strongly urged the nation to back the ceasefire agreement with the Tamil guerrillas, but opposition lawmakers denounced the the manner in which the agreement had been reached and the powers given to Norway in implementing it. Wickremesinghe making an opening statement during a two-day special debate in parliament called by the opposition to discuss the agreement also called the opposition not to criticise the Norwegians who are playing a key role in the agreement.
