Promises galore as Ranil visits Jaffna
Times of India, MARCH 15, 2002 . If people in the northern town of Jaffna were honoured that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe was visiting their hometown, the war-ravaged city would be thrilled to hear that they may soon have a tourist hotel, supermarket and be the host of an international football match.Following the visit, Sri Lanka’s biggest conglomerate John Keels Holdings is reported to be considering opening a tourist resort and supermarket in Jaffna. Other top companies have also pledged to set up industrial plants and factories to provide employment and develop the area. More...
