Christina Rocca visits Jaffna
The Hindu (International), march 16. The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Christina Rocca, arrived in this war-shattered peninsula for a brief visit that demonstrated that America was fully backing the Norwegian-facilitated peace process in Sri Lanka. Ms. Rocca had a 40-minute discussion with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, at the Palaly military camp. The meeting between Ms. Rocca and a Government leader at the centre of LTTE demands for a separate state was also a symbolic reiteration that the peninsula is an integral part of the Sri Lankan state.
