Tigers 'must give up demand for state'
Gulf-News, march 17. The U.S. government yesterday urged the LTTE to give up its demand for a separate state in Sri Lanka in order to consider the lifting of the ban on the organisation in their country, adding more pressure on the rebel group. The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs, Christina Rocca, told a news conference in Colombo that lifting the ban on the LTTE will depend on "the LTTE ending hostile activities, showing respect to humanity and accepting that an independent state is not a viable option".
