LTTE still expecting India to host peace talks

The Norwegian government is considering several venues to hold peace talks between the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE but the rebels appear to still have their hopes pinned on India. The Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar Helgesen told the local Sunday Island paper that Norway was looking at various options adding that the LTTE's request for India to host talks met with 'soft reluctance of assistance.' He however said Norway's immediate priority was to meet the three, six and nine month deadlines for the effective implementation of the permanent cease-fire agreement. But the LTTE's political leader in the eastern province Karikalan said he believed that India would oblige them by hosting talks and discounted much of the protest in India against the move.
