LTTE declares Trincomalee Eelam capital
Hindustan Times, March 19,2002. The LTTE today declared this eastern port town and a major Sri Lankan naval base the capital of a future, independent Tamil Eelam. The declaration was made at a rally at the beachfront attended by about 50,000 Tamils. The participants in the “Pongu Tamil” or Tamil upsurge rally wore badges bearing an image of the LTTE chief, Velupillai Prabhakaran. They raised their hands in a Nazi-type salute as they swore allegiance to him and the LTTE. More...
