Anton arrives in rebel-Lanka to Colombo protests
The Indian Express, March 25. The chief negotiator for Sri Lanka’s LTTE flew by seaplane into rebel-held territory on Monday to help the guerrillas prepare for peace talks with the government, diplomats and military officials said. Balasingham’s visit, unthinkable before the rebels and government signed a ceasefire agreement last month, met with protests in Colombo. The hardline People’s Liberation Front (JVP) that has stridently opposed the truce said Balasingham should have been kept out of the country because the LTTE is an outlawed group. More...
