No lottery taxes for LTTE
Bandula Jayasekara in Colombo,
SLT 7.45 a.m Tuesday 14 January.
Development Lotteries Board, Marketing Consultant Nalin Attygalle said
yesterday that the Development Lotteries Board does not pay any taxes to the
LTTE though the Development Lottery is freely available in LTTE controlled
areas. However Attygalle told The Lanka Academic that he is not aware if the
Lotteries Board dealers in the area are paying any taxes to the LTTE.
Responding to a question if the Board was giving special rebate to the
dealers selling the lottery in LTTE controlled area he said " No. We are not
doing that and our system does not permit it" The Development Lotteries
Board established in 1983 has assisted in the development of the country and
is a key contributor to the Presidents Fund and the Mahapola Scholarship
Fund.
