S. B. Dissanayake says the government will not allow CBK to dissolve Parliament
Frederica Jansz in Colombo, 9.30 a.m. SLT Monday February 3. Samurdhi and Agricultural Affairs Minister S. B. Dissanayake yesterday said the government would not allow President Chandrika Kumaratunge to dissolve parliament.

Dissanayake charged that despite Kumaratunge's threat of dissolving parliament and holding a snap election, the UNF government would ensure she does not do it.

He added, that even if Kumaratunge does go ahead and use her executive powers to call for another election the UNF were more than prepared to face another snap ballot.

LTTE behind SLMM Chiefs removal/departure.
Bandula Jayasekara in Colombo, SLT 7.15 a.m Monday 3 February. LTTE is behind SLMM chief Major General Trond Furuhovede's sudden removal/departure even though the Norwegians announced that the respected General decided to take a break from his duties and remain as an advisor to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission. A discussion, which took place between the Secretary of the LTTE Peace Secretariat, Pulithevan and Eilamparadi LTTE political in -charge of Jaffna, and intercepted by other groups reveal that the LTTE is behind the sudden removal/departure of General Furuhovede. On the 25th of January when Eilamparadi made a complaint to Pulithevan that SLMM' s Jaffna leader Ole Broenbum was not co-operating with the LTTE, Pulithevan told him " We changed the head so after this situation would change and if not we would change him too. This is not a problem for us if we could change the head." What Pulithevan meant was that the stand of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission would change since the removal/departure of General Furuhovede. SLMM head in Jaffna earned the wrath of Eilamparadi when Ole said it was not his responsibility to provide the brigade maps to the LTTE and the LTTE should collect them from the Army or through their people. The Government Agent has told Eilamparadi that the re-settlement in the High Security Zones (HSZ) would be done according to the Brigade maps and not according to the government maps. In addition Ole has refused to accede to the request of Eilamparadi to intervene in obtaining the release of one Papa's van taken in to custody by the Police in Kottikamam. A defence analyst told The Lanka Academic that the government must find out if the respected Norwegian General was not allowed to do his job in an impartial manner by the LTTE and if he was really tired of the job and wanted to take a break. He added that the LTTE was not helping the peace process with this type of loose talk, which easily could be intercepted by other groups.
