Hartal in Batticaloa today
Frederica Jansz in Colombo, 9 p.m. SLT Wednesday February 19. A hartal was called in Batticaloa today, demanding that all shops and schools remain closed.

Batticaloa police said the hartal did not bring about a complete stoppage of all public administration but admitted that most shops and all schools were closed for the day.

The hartal was enforced by the LTTE following the recent clash between female tiger cadres and the army at Manipay over the wearing of belts by the LTTE female cadre.
