Twenty Intelligence Men Killed by LTTE since MOU
Bandula Jayasekara in Colombo,
SLT 8.00 a.m Saturday 22 March.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have killed 20 members attached
to the Intelligence Units of the Sri Lankan forces after the signing of the
MOU between the government and the LTTE. The intelligence men killed by the
LTTE had played vital roles in preventing certain suicide missions by the
LTTE. According to a report in The Island newspaper LTTE's Intelligence
Chief Pottu Amman had ordered his members to expedite the process against
the most wanted officers attached to the Intelligence Units in the North and
the East and also in Colombo. The task has been assigned to the Pistol Gang
of LTTE's Sivakumar in Batticaloa. Among the top officers targeted by the
LTTE are Captain Nilam of the Long Range Patrol Group View, Chief Inspector
M. Nilabdeen of the Anti Terrorist Unit and his assistant Inspector T.
Jayaratnam. The Island report adds that the names of the government
intelligence officers came to be known after the much-publicized
investigation carried out by Police Officer K. Udugampola. Latest killing of
an informant took place last Tuesday (18) at Mount-Lavinia. He was shot at
close range by two LTTE gunmen on a motorbike. The newspaper report adds
that the security forces are powerless and they cannot take any action since
the Prevention of Terrorism Act is non-existent now.

IT'S NOT CRICKET, STUPID, IT'S COMPUTERS, LOVELY COMPUTERS
Fulbright Scholar Brings Computers to Urban Disadvantaged Children in
Colombo, Sri Lanka.
By Chulie de Silva, Colombo.
You would think on a warm Saturday morning, children in Sri Lanka
would be watching a cricket match and cheering on their heroes. No,
not in Kew Road, Slave Island, a multi-ethnic enclave just five
minutes away from the exclusive Trans Asia Hotel in Colombo's central
down town area. The cricket match played on at the Malay Cricket Club,
on Saturday 25, January but thirty children were flocked round five
computers in a little rectangular room of the Vocational Training
Center (VTC) run by the Sri Lanka Malay Association's (SLMA) Rupee
Fund. [More...]
