MOSCOW (AP) Russia was sending a new planeload of humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka on Sunday as part of its response to last month's deadly Tsunami, an official said. Russian planes have made 23 aid flights to Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka since the Dec. 26 catastrophe, delivering 528 tons of aid, he said. An Emergency Situations Ministry hospital set up in Sri Lanka on Jan. 19 has treated more than 2,500 patients, Beltsov said. A Defense Ministry hospital is operating on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Earlier this month, President Vladimir Putin said Russia's aid to tsunami-stricken Asian countries would top US$33 million (euro25.4 million), Moscow's biggest-ever contribution to an international disaster-relief effort.
