Sri Lankan rebels office attacked
xinhuanet.com,
Feb 12, 2005.
COLOMBO, Feb. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- One person was killed and two others were injured on Saturday when a Tamil Tiger political office located in a northern Sri Lankan came under attack, police said. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) office at Mannar, 330 km from the capital Colombo, came under a grenade attack at around 8 p.m. local time (1400 GMT) Saturday. A group of people who had come in a three-wheeled taxi had flung a grenade, killing a civilian and causing injuries to two LTTE members. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. The LTTE is plagued by the internecine clashes ever since its once powerful eastern commander Karuna broke ranks with them in March last year.

TNF Demands the Resignation of the 22 Tamil MPs Backing Prabaharan
Asiantribune,
Feb 12.
The Tamil National Force (TNF), which claimed responsibility for the assassination of Lt. Col. Eliyathamby Kousalyan, the Political Head of the LTTE in the east, has issued a press release demanding the resignation of the 22 Tamil MPs who made the loudest noises in Parliament on behalf of the slain Tamil Tiger.
Accusing these MPs of kow-towing to Prabaharan the official statement issued by S. Cheran, the spokesperson for TNF said: “We kindly call upon the 22 Tamil Members of Parliament to resign from the seats.”
Here is the translation of the full text:
The Tamils were greatly surprised to note your excessive emotions flaring on the floor of the Parliament over the death of Kouslayan. The Tamils were equally surprised to note that similar emotions were not demonstrated when 20, 000 Tamils lives were swallowed in recent tsunami.
It should be noted by the Tamil people that these MPs were not expressing their feelings on February 9, 2005 not out of sympathy with the Tamils who died but out of loyalty to the power crazy Vanni leadership. Out of these herd that mooed in Parliament Sampanthan and Sivajilingham stood out outstandingly.
These two are bending over backwards to please Prabaharan. Unmindful of who died, they must demonstrate their loyalty to Prabaharan who rigged the votes to become M.Ps and also to remain and to be in Parliament under the leadership of Prabaharan.

Akashi urges LTTE exercise maximum restrain
Munza Mushtaq in Colombo,
February 12, 2005, 9.24 p.m..
Japan’s Special peace Envoy Yasushi Akashi today urged the LTTE to exercise maximum retrain and not to revert to any hostilities. During a meeting with LTTE political wing leader S.P. Tamilselvan at Kokkadicholai, the Envoy also noted that the recent killing of a top Tiger rebel Kaushalyan was however an impediment to the post tsunami activities and the peace process.
“My profound condolences to the victims of the tsunami impact and the people of Batticaloa-Amparai who have lost a good leader, his colleagues and a human rights activist in the recent killing which we vehemently condemn and wish to express our fears of this type of killings are endangering the peace process at large,” Mr. Akashi is reported to have said according to the LTTE Peace Secretariat.
The Japanese Envoy was also keen to know about the status of the proposal put forward by the LTTE to the government to formulate a common structure to meet urgent humanitarian delivery and reconstruction activities in a post tsunami scenario. Tamilselvan in response had explained that the LTTE remains committed to work with the government on such a mechanism and regretted that there is delay on the part of the government to arrive at a consensus based on the realistic and pragmatic proposals put forward through the facilitators.
In view of a meeting with President Kumaratunga tonight, Mr. Akashi wanted to know if there was any message from the Political Head. Responding to this Tamilselvan said that the government should consider the proposals purely on the basis of those being meant to rehabilitate and develop the tsunami hit North East coast, the urgency of it and the advantage of this mutual trust building exercise leading to better prospects in the peace process.
Tamilselvan also made it a point to mention that the government and its military should act in accordance with clause 1.8 of the Cease Fire Agreement, which prohibits activities of armed groups, a matter that has not been seriously viewed by the government resulting in such killings.
