Clinton: 'A lot of emotional damage' in Sri Lanka
suntimes.com, Tues 22nd Feb 12:55GMT. MALE, Maldives -- Wrapping up a tour of tsunami-ravaged nations, former Presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush sat with child survivors at a shelter in Sri Lanka on Monday, and mingled with European tourists in the Maldives.

The children danced, sang and drew pictures of their experiences.

''Some of them are still drawing about the tsunami, and some of them are drawing life as they remember it, and as they want it to be again,'' Clinton said in the fishing town of Weligama on Sri Lanka's battered southern coast. ''There was a lot of emotional damage here that's not visible to the eye. We don't want them to be suffering from this five or 10 years from now.'' More...

newkerala.com, Tues 22nd Feb 17:00GMT. The opposition leader and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has warned that the truce with tamil tigers was under threat and the government should resume the talks because the country could not face another war.

Ranil accused the present government of not carrying forward the peace process started by his government and the situation was standstill at the point from where he left. Instead, there are some parties with vested interest, who like to go back to war but the reality is that the next war would be disastrous for the country. More...

In Colombo, schoolchildren flocked to an exhibition of photographs chronicling the truce in a war that has killed over 64,000 people on both sides of the ethnic divide and displaced hundreds of thousands from their homes.

In the northern rebel stronghold of Kilinochchi, still stinging from this month's assassination of a senior guerrilla, Tiger political wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan accused Sri Lanka's military of mounting a clandestine war that has strained his patience. More...
