Tigers launch drive against failure to disarm groups
Gulf News,
April 1.
Colombo : Tamil Tiger rebels have launched a campaign against the government's failure to disarm rival groups in keeping with the ceasefire agreement.
The 36-month old fragile ceasefire agreement was signed under a Norwegian backed peace process.
A delegation led by the political wing leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Thamil Selvam, currently on tour of eight European countries, has focused mainly on the threats to their group from rival armed groups reportedly operating with the assistance of the security forces.
The latest meeting with representatives of foreign countries came on Wednesday when the LTTE met Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Erkki Tuomioja, in Helsinki.

Sri Lanka Monks party opposed to federalism
Yahoo,
April 02, 2005.
Sri Lanka's all Buddhist Monk party is opposed to the moves to introduce a federal constitution to the country, a top official said Friday.
Ven Dr Omalpe Sobhitha, general secretary of the JHU, or the Heritage Party, said that a resolution was adopted at the party's first national convention held on Thursday that Sri Lanka must remain a unitary state.
The party is to oppose vehemently the moves to change the unitary character of the country by way of a constitutional amendment or through a referendum, Ven Sobhitha stressed.
Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga is believed to be considering a move to hold a national referendum on constitutional reform -- among the changes sought is to have a federal constitution and to abolish the present presidential style of government.

Army: Suspected Tamil rebels kill man in eastern Sri Lanka
Associated Press,
Fri April 1, 2005 12:30 EST .
- - COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - (AP) Suspected Tamil Tiger rebels shot dead a man in eastern Sri Lanka - Friday amid growing violence in the region, the military said. The Tamil Tigers have been accused of killing dozens of rival group members despite a Norway-brokered cease-fire signed in 2002. The violence escalated in eastern Sri Lanka - since an unprecedented split within the group last year led by a senior commander from the region. The Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam rebels have fought the government since 1983 to create a separate state for ethnic minority Tamils, accusing the majority Sinhalese of discrimination. The conflict killed 65,000 people before the truce.
