S Lanka says 93 troops killed in March

COLOMBO: At least 93 Sri Lankan soldiers were killed and another 686 injured during clashes with Tamil Tiger rebels last month, the prime minister told parliament Wednesday.
Premier Ratnasiri Wickremanayake, in a statement to the 225-member national legislature, said 38 civilians were killed and another 21 wounded in March.
"The number of security personnel killed last month was 93 while another 686 soldiers and police were wounded," Wickremanayake said.His figures were higher than the numbers released by the defence ministry in their daily situation reports released to reporters here.

Madurai, April 09 Tamil Nadu State Intelligence sleuths have seized 16 cans of highly inflammable chemical solution, suspected to be used for manufacturing powerful explosives, meant for smuggling to Sri Lanka, in an operation here today.
Police said acting on a tip off, the 'Q' branch police team arrested a Sri Lankan Tamil Refugee Navaneetha Krishnan (33) from the 'Samathuvapuram' locality near Sakki Mangalam.
The chemical solution was being smuggled to Sri Lanka for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), police added.

Jayasuriya excited about playing with Tendulkar

MUMBAI: Sanath Jayasuriya and Sachin Tendulkar make for a potent batting combination in any form of cricket.
Twenty20 will see these two cricketing heavyweights showcase their expertise in the latest version of the game for Mumbai Indians in the DLF Indian Premier League.
Jayasuriya played in the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa and also gained T20 experience with English county sides Lancashire and Warwickshire last year.
The Sri Lankan, benched for the forthcoming one-day series against West Indies and having retired from Test cricket, is excited about the opportunity to play in the same team as Tendulkar. “I had a chat with Sachin in Australia when we were playing at Hobart. Playing in the same team as him will be fulfilling another milestone,” said Jayasuriya, talking to the media from Sri Lanka through teleconferencing.
