Cloud hangs over Jayasuriya’s selection
The News, April 2. NEW DELHI: A dispute in Sri Lanka cricket circles with rumours that the inclusion of Sanath Jayasuriya’s name in the Sri Lanka team of the ICC T20 event to be held in the West Indies, has been through political interference.

Informed sources and those in the Indian Premier League have said that a row has broken out between the selectors, headed by Ashantha de Mel and the Minister of Sport Gamini Lokuge before the final names were released through the media on Wednesday afternoon.

The sources say that former opening batsman Upul Tharanga’s name was scratched off the list and Jayasuriya, who is in line to become a politician for the governing party to which Lokuge is a member, was included instead. More...Discuss this story
