Rights group rejects S.Lanka war probe as smokescreen
AFP, May 9. COLOMBO (AFP) – An international rights group Saturday called Sri Lanka's planned review of its final battle against Tamil Tiger rebels a smokescreen to avoid accountability for alleged war crimes.

President Mahinda Rajapakse on Thursday said he would name a commission next week to assess lessons from the last stages of fighting in 2009 and recommend measures to prevent a return to conflict. More...Discuss this story

toi, May 9, 2010, 05.00am IST. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala police on Saturday stumbled on a human trafficking racket following the detention of 38 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees from a lodge in Kollam district.

The group, which included five women and as many children, were picked up late on Friday night following intelligence inputs from Tamil Nadu police. Big B will attend IIFA Awards in Lanka: Official
ens, May 9. COLOMBO: Actor Amitabh Bachchan will attend the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards function at Colombo in June, even if just for a day, a top official of the Sri Lanka Tourist Board (SLTB) claims.

“Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai are definitely participating. And as for Amitabh, he will also come, even if only for a day,” the official told Express on the condition of anonymity.
