Former LTTE arms procurer agrees to cooperate in rehabilitation: report
Hindu, june 21. Kumaran Pathmanathan (KP), former arms procurer of the LTTE, now under the custody of the Sri Lankan authorities, along with a few other rebels abroad, has agreed to cooperate with the efforts of the government to rehabilitate the nearly three lakh war-displaced Tamil civilians and help in the reconstruction of the war-ravaged northern province.

The state-owned English weekly Sunday Observer, in a report here, said KP recently organised a meeting of nine former rebels with the Sri Lankan authorities and pledged their support to the government's initiatives.

It quoted the former rebel as saying that the change of heart of the Tiger sympathisers was due to the fact that they had ‘now begun to understand the ground realities.' More...Discuss this story

Lanka theatre torched ahead of 'Raavanan' show
IBN, June 21. Colombo: A theatre that was to screen Tamil movie Raavanan was torched in Sri Lanka as the controversy over the film’s Indian actress and director, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Mani Ratnam, not attending the IIFA awards in the country earlier this month grew.

Three LTTE operatives held
pti, june 21. Chennai, Jun 20 (PTI) Three suspected operatives of the LTTE were today arrested and a cache of detonators was seized from their possession, four days after a member of the banned outfit was nabbed by the police. The trio was arrested by the Tamil Nadu 'Q' branch during a raid at Tiruchirapalli. 4,900 ordinary detonators and 430 electric detonators were seized from them, an official release said here. Siva, Selvam, Tamiz stayed illegally in Chennai, Erode and Tiruchirapalli, respectively, without registering themselves as Sri Lankan Tamils, it said, adding that strict vigil along the coastal areas prevented them from smuggling the detonators to Sri Lanka.
