UNP faces leadership crisis
The Hindu, 2010-09-11 01:47:00 EST. The main opposition in Sri Lanka United National Party (UNP) on Friday appeared headed for a major crisis over the leadership issue.

A group of 25 of 43 remaining parliamentarians of the UNP has issued an ultimatum to party leader Ranil Wickremsinghe to either resolve the internal crisis or be prepared to face the consequences.

The MPs have said they will sit as independent MPs if the party crisis is not settled soon. UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera, who is among the 25, told the local media that the crisis faced by the party had gone out of control. More...Discuss this story
