The Hindu, 2010-09-16 03:50:00 EST. The Sri Lankan Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) has suggested to President Mahinda Rajapaksa interim measures to better the lot of resettled Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and people living in former conflict areas.

Measures suggested by the eight-member Commission include enabling people to use their own language in official dealings, especially making statements to the police.

The Commission was constituted by Mr. Rajapaksa in May this year to probe the incidents from early 2002 (when the Norwegian-brokered ceasefire agreement between the government and the LTTE came into vogue) and the end of the war in 2009. It has been asked to fix responsibility and recommend ways for reconciliation between the majority and minority communities. More...Discuss this story

Sri Lankan shares hit new peak on pricing move - Reuters, 2010-09-15 16:58:27 EST. COLOMBO, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Sri Lankan shares registered a new record high on Wednesday as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced plans to withdraw a 10 percent daily limit on share price moves from September 20. [ID:nSGE68E087] Sri Lanka's main share index .CSE jumped 1.03 percent to hit a record high of 6,238.45 points. It touched an intraday high of 6,282.61 points within an hour after the opening. Sri Lanka seeks to boost ties with Iran - Tehran Times, 2010-09-15 23:39:42 EST.
