Karunanidhi meets Sonia, raises Sri Lankan Tamils issue - The Hindu, 2010-10-09 15:19:17 EST. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Saturday requested UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to “use her good offices” to impress upon the Centre to urge Sri Lanka to bring an end to the “untold misery” of Tamils in camps in the island nation. The sooner they are rehabilitated and allowed to return to their places, the better it would be to enable them pursue their normal life, Mr. Karunanidhi said in a memorandum submitted to Ms. Gandhi at the airport here during her brief stopover en route to Puducherry and Tiruchirapalli. Indian Naval ships in Sri Lanka - The Hindu, 2010-10-09 22:27:51 EST. Four Indian naval ships — INS “Tir”, INS “Shardul”, INS Tarangini and ICGS “Varuna” — arrived in Sri Lanka on Saturday for training and exercises with the Sri Lankan Navy. While INS “Tir”, INS “Shardul” and ICGS “Varuna” arrived at the port of Trincomalee, INS Tarangini arrived at the port of Colombo. Canada hunts 'third Tamil vessel' - BBC News, 2010-10-09 02:08:04 EST. Canadian officials are investigating whether a another ship is attempting to ferry Tamil migrants from Sri Lanka to Canada. Authorities are using satellites to determine the location of the ship, the Toronto Sun newspaper reported. In August, officials detained 492 Tamil migrants who arrived on board the MV Sun Sea from Sri Lanka.
