Sri Lanka asked to expedite rehabilitation process: P Chidambaram - Daily News & Analysis, 2010-11-06 13:05:45 EST. India has asked Sri Lanka to expedite the construction of houses for Internally displaced persons (IDPs) as part of the rehabilitation process and the latter has promised to take it up after the monsoon period, Union home minister P Chidambaram said today. India had conveyed this message during the recent visit of Sri Lankan Mahinda Rajapakse to India, Chidambaram told reporters here after meeting Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi. As part of its efforts in the reconstruction of the war-torn areas of Sri Lanka, India has announced construction of 50,000 houses for the IDPs in the northern and eastern provinces of that nation. Sri Lanka clears 300000 land mines - Daily Times, 2010-11-07 03:51:26 EST. COLOMBO: Sri Lanka Army spokesman Major General Ubhaya Medawala says that the Army has defused 305,376 land mines so far in recently liberated areas in the country. The Army has cleared an area of 1,861 square kilometers of Northern Province of land mines, reported the Colombo Page. Around 1,000 Army officials are engaged in de-mining operations together with non-state organizations, Army says. Trade tie-up with Sri Lanka

A 13-member delegation of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE), an organization of entrepreneurs, which visited Sri Lanka recently has signed a memorandum of understanding with Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) to expand business ties.
