War crimes lawyers seek arrest of Sri Lankan president in Oxford - The Guardian, 2010-12-01 01:30:47 EST. Lawyers working for Tamil activists are attempting to obtain a war crimes arrest warrant against Sri Lanka's president and senior member of his entourage who have arrived in Britain.

Mahinda Rajapaksa, whose government defeated the separatist Tamil Tigers last year amid humanitarian protests about the treatment of civilians trapped in the war zone, is due to speak at the Oxford Union on Thursday.

The visit comes as Tamil supporters claim to have acquired a video showing a former Tamil Tiger colonel being interrogated by Sri Lankan forces. His family allege he was killed after surrendering. More...Discuss this story

Sri Lanka Hires Public Relations Firm For 2018 Commonwealth Bid -, 2010-11-30 19:22:12 EST. Sri Lanka issued a statement saying it has hired a public relations firm to advise in its bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games in southern Hambantota. The public relations firm of Bell Pottinger and other units of Chime Communications marketing group will act as advisers to Sri Lanka's bid.

Central Bank Governor Ajith Cabraal said in the statement, "the appointment of this advisory team reinforces how important the 2018 bid is to Sri Lanka".
